This project was made to challenge me in creating a user interface design for a fictional product called Sync. With the huge amount of separate calendar applications and the issue of needing twenty group chat services to work with various teams, it can be very overwhelming and easy to lose track of information.
The project was meant to address the problems with these online calendars, chat groups, and meeting sites and combine their uses into one application. With the main goal to create a tool that students could use to improve their workflow, the following mockup was created to help organize students' lives.
One great advantage to this online, web format was that I could use the interactivity of the website to create a lot of functionality, whilst still keeping the website simple and organized. One of the greatest examples of this was the new calendar format which, instead of using the typical boxy layout, contained every day on one line at the top of the page. Meaning that more room could be dedicated to the rest of the "Synced Space" and other functionalities.
The next steps in achieving this goal were to design a calendar system fit for a web browser application and create a chat system for students to collaborate and interact with one another. In the first step of creating the brand's identity, the main idea was to create a bright and inviting experience for the users. Targeting students, it was meant to seem fun whilst still instilling that feeling of new-age technology. The main example of this was in two linking C-shapes in the logo that were meant to represent the process of coming together whilst also forming the S as in "Sync." With a lot of the rest of the space being dedicated to other functions of the application, the rest of the design branding was relatively simple.
The other functions of the application were the chat functions to communicate through various apps on one platform, as well as a video calling system to talk to fellow users. Keeping with the simple theme, these systems were designed to work alongside the calendar functions to make it easy to add events and notes for certain days.
The project was a great success as it not only pushed the boundaries of my UI and UX design capabilities but also challenged my thinking to incorporate many functions into one concise application.
