These pieces were meant to challenge my current way of thinking and push me to explore design principles and apply them to the medium of motion and time. All of these designs started as static images, and my goal was to transform the motionless designs into interesting, animated stories.
Starting with sketches and further drafting in products like Illustrator and Photoshop, I wanted the final product to feel true to the original concept while still being compelling when in motion. Storyboarding was an important step in mapping out the concept, and allowed me to visualize how each element should move within the design. With the planning of previous steps and proper formatting of design elements, transferring the items over to After Effects was made simple and allowed me to focus on the movement and timing within each video. Using graph editors, masking, and various effects helped hone my skills in the program while also helping me achieve the original goal of maintaining each design's core aesthetic and feeling. In some instances, hand animation was also used to properly define intricate movements and further explore common methods to create motion in both illustrative and design media.
These projects served a great role in further pushing the boundaries of my skillset, and inspired me to see how I could apply this knowledge to all aspects of my work.
